↝ Description
Had a ton of fun working on this 80s retro sci-fi project strongly inspired by the amazing Simon Stalenhag.
Learned a lot about hair, rigging, constraints and compositing in Nuke and realized that character animation without mocap is quite a hassle.
↝ Tools used
Cinema 4D, Redshift, Substance Painter, Nuke, Ornatrix
Finishing this project in a month was quite the challenge, but I learned a ton in the process. I modeled, textured and animated the mech from scratch, though I didn't have any time anymore for the character, so he was 'kitbashed' together from game assets I had lying around; though I still modeled the hair using Ornatrix, since games often lack in that regard.
One of my strengths is procedural shading, so I built a dust shader to give some surfaces a bit more life, as well as a halftone shader which some old glass materials seem to have. Oh, and of course the scratched vignettes, which add some more story to the car of the protagonist.
My favorite detail is the dangly 'Wunderbaum' air freshener, which I animated using a super quick sim in Cinema 4D.
